Un Furoshiki è un quadrato di stoffa, di solito in cotone o seta, ma anche in rattan o nylon, usato in Giappone per avvolgere oggetti di diverso tipo, dai vestiti (anticamente vi si riponevano durante il bagno pubblico) a un regalo, dai libri al bento, dalle bottiglie ai fiori alla spesa.
Furoshiki are some squared wrapping cloth - made of cotton, silk, rattan or nylon - frequently used in Japan to transport goods such as clothes (in ancient times, they bundled their clothes in Furoshiki while at the public baths), gifts, books, bento-boxes, bottles, flowers, and grocery shopping.

L'uso dei Furoshiki era molto diffuso fino alla Seconda Guerra Mondiale. In seguito, caddero in disuso a causa della diffusione delle buste di plastica.
Furoshiki were mostly used until the Second World War, but afterwards their number declined due to the increasing use of plastic shopping bags.
Negli ultimi anni, tuttavia, l'interesse crescente per le problematiche ambientali ha favorito il ritorno in auge di tali stoffe.
Over the last few years, however, the renewed interest to environmental issues has promoted their return.

È arrivato il momento di dichiarare guerra ai sacchetti di plastica, di riappropriarci della nostra Terra, di rendere tutto più colorato e allegro. Facciamo un passo indietro e tiriamo fuori dai nostri armadi i vecchi foulard, riutilizziamoli, diamo loro nuova vita, coloriamo le nostre strade portando un fazzoletto annodato... accendiamo la creatività! ^_^
